The Messiah’s message was to worship the Father. Everywhere I looked in the gospels he was inviting people to worship the Father. Sure, he challenged the Scribes and Pharisees, that was because they put heavy burdens on the people and loved to sit in high places.
He even went so far as to say to the Pharisees that their father was the Devil. If your father was Abraham ye would do the works of Abraham. That hit hard, because I had recently studied and prayed about Abraham. Abraham did not live the law of Moses. He lived a higher law and was called the friend of God and was in God’s presence several times that we know of.
Even in that discussion in John chapter 4 Jesus mentioned he came from the Father and the Father sent him and that his words were the Fathers words and they were true yet the Pharisees could not understand them because they had murderous and lying hearts like their father the Devil.
Reading the gospels while working hard not to project the creeds and teachings of the churches onto the scriptures, opens up a whole new understanding. I read them praying for the Holy Spirit to be my guide and did the best I could not to apply an interpretation on them but treating them as they mean what they say and say what they mean.
Jesus says that he came from the Father, was sent by the Father, spoke the words the Father wanted him to speak, only did what he saw his Father do, and continually did the Father's will. When teaching people to pray he said to say “Our Father which art in heaven…”. Before his ascension he said I go unto my Father and your Father and unto my God and your God. He never asked people to pray to or worship him, he always encouraged people to pray to and worship the Father and he taught by example and words.
